Not much chance of your regular person grasping the depth of the task at hand. Even if they did, it's likely they would leave it to their children to figure out. I think our only hope is to impact the present population, now, with impact, so they don't have the option of "not worrying about it because I'll be dead by then". Pretty impressive group we are if you ask me.
